What is Borosilicate Glass?
Borosilicate glass, popular in the glass industry, is useful in applications dealing with high heat exposure, such as bongs, dab rigs, and all the above.
An amalgamation of perfection and heat resistance, borosilicate glass is made of boron and silica, which is less susceptible to thermal expansion. (Traditional soda lime has 1/3 the heat resistance of borosilicate glass.) Borosilicate glass can typically withstand temperatures up to 165 °C (329 °F).
Why Buy Borosilicate glass?
Now we're not expecting you to dip your bong in fire, but the close proximity of the bong to its bowl or nail piece could lead to catastrophic glass heat exposure.
Rapid changes in glass temperatures can crack or even shatter portions of the bong piece, that is no fun! That is why we prefer Borosilicate glass.

More appropriately called fused quartz or fused silica, quartz glass tends to be the material of choice in quartz bangers and glass nails, for smoking dabs (sometimes metal or glass is used instead of quartz).
Why Buy Quartz Glass?Glass nails and bangers must endure the highest temperatures and must be well made. This process is achieved by melting silica sand, which fuses the quartz crystals within them. The result: Fused quartz has 1/15 the thermal expansion rate of soda lime glass which makes quartz effective in high heat applications, such as nails for concentrates. Quartz bangers typically have melting points in the range of 1750 to 2100 degrees F: which means they can take a ton of heat!
